Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While gambling on internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world may be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
