Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha hi lo begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting ensues in which players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of players can get baffled. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the best possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same notion in just about every poker game.

A low hand is more complex, but really free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no low hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem difficult at first, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an exciting range of betting options and owing to the fact that you have several players trying for the high hand, as well as a few battling for the low. If you prefer a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is worth your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
