Howard Lederer lived in a family of five in which he liked playing numerous card games when he was young. He found himself getting very aggressive in these card games as he was playing his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he played many hours and don’t win most times. He made some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he could improve his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and concentrate even more on poker.
The definite improvement in his abilities began when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would often compete against one another. Howard was able to access some of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his logical thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategy ideas to the game of NL holdem.
Howard Lederer also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. She was a great student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer relocated to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the subsequent decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
