Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five where he liked taking part in numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in these card games as he was competing against his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little while and headed to New York City to compete in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he played countless hours and lose most times. He earned some additional money by being an assistant for the poker players. He judged he could better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and focus more on the game.
The real advancement in his game happened when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would frequently challenge one another. Howard had access into several of the best minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would sharpen his strategic thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategy ideas to the game of No-Limit holdem.
Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was an excellent student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper decision. He told Annie to move out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the greatest female players the poker world has ever seen. Howard Lederer headed to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the next 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
