Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While competing in online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found betting on web poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
